Further proof that the location mantra means something different in Los Angeles, the city's best seafood restaurant is located at the back of an anonymous bit of concrete courtyard off Vine, just between Sunset and Hollywood. Chef David Lentz says he was inspired by clam shacks and it shows with perfect fried oysters, clam chowder with bits of chorizo and dinosaur kale and inspired fish specials. The wine list is tiny and always interesting, but it's the drinks -- fresh-squeezed in-season juices with top-shelf liquors, simple syrups and the occasional rosemary sprig -- that make The Hungry Cat worthy of canonization.
