B/c its gorgeous, living, biotech, and who can say no to a hands-off no maintenance orchid in a test tube?

okay, this is just really cool. I dont know if i'd actually move it to soil if it got to big.. But I like the option..

"Anyone can send a bouquet - this is the uncommon way to send flowers. A nutrient-rich gel supplies all that this orchid needs to grow in its sterilized test tube. No water or maintenance necessary - biotechnology does the work for you. When the plant reaches the top of the tube simply transfer to potting soil"

It's a fascinating idea. I just can't help but wonder how well it works. Orchids are notoriously difficult to grow, except under very specific conditions. I'm curious.

Doesn't this orchid in a test tube look like something out of a steam punk's laboratory? I think it does and it is SO gorgeous! A little piece of living beauty for your desktop. <3

I bought one at Monteverde Costa Rica for 8 dollars. They are all over the place here, charging 30-40$ per orchid is STUPID.
The process of growing orchids like this probably costs them all of 20 cents. You whack a piece of leaf off, cut that leaf into as many tiny pieces as you can, and put it on petri dish gel with some nutrients. This is the same way most of our African violets are grown in the US. It literally costs them pennies.
Way to rip people off!
(Thumbs up)
