Probably the closest I'll ever get to cloning my own plants.

I love how this site can also incorporate organic items as well, and this one is just the bare essentials.

Interactive nature without the interaction! "A nutrient-rich gel supplies all the flower needs to grow inside a sterilized test-tube. ...When the flower outgrows the five-inch tube, simply transplant."

great gift for hard-to-buy-fors. Good for people who are good with plants, because it's interesting and growing orchids is appealing; and also people who are terrible with plants, because it's so easy to care for (leave it entirely alone in indirect light).

I just discovered I had a green thumb when a ivy plant I bought at whole foods hasn't died. I ready to step...to an orchid!

Amazing, futuristic and kind of creepy. In Vitro brings the mental image of a fetus and a fetus-flower is...well...gross. ...ha, which is not to say that I'm not running out to buy like TEN. Right now.

I didn't think it was possible for a plant to be geeky but this one is. It's great!

FYI, you have to "transplant" the orchid plant into a growing medium in a pot, not another test tube, so the geek factor will be lost eventually.

I bought one at Monteverde Costa Rica for 8 dollars. They are all over the place here, charging 30-40$ per orchid is STUPID. The process of growing orchids like this probably costs them all of 20 cents. You whack a piece of leaf off, cut that leaf into as many tiny pieces as you can, and put it on petri dish gel with some nutrients. This is the same way most of our African violets are grown in the US. It literally costs them pennies. Way to rip people off! (Thumbs up)

Doesn't this orchid in a test tube look like something out of a steam punk's laboratory? I think it does and it is SO gorgeous! A little piece of living beauty for your desktop. <3

"Anyone can send a bouquet - this is the uncommon way to send flowers. A nutrient-rich gel supplies all that this orchid needs to grow in its sterilized test tube. No water or maintenance necessary - biotechnology does the work for you. When the plant reaches the top of the tube simply transfer to potting soil"
