Stunning, haunting, romantic, heartbreaking and compelling. This is an epic romantic drama that isn't bodice-swellingly annoying or forgotten as soon as you leave the theatre (or switch on the lamp next to the couch). The cinematography perfectly conveys the hazy, hot summer days in the English countryside, then the stark, cold clarity of World War II. James McAvoy, one of the most exciting young actors working today, and the bewitchingly lovely Keira Knightley are perfect as the interrupted lovers, and the youngest actress to play Briony Tallis, Saoirse Ronan is a revelation. Sumptuous, beautiful and one of the most haunting love stories I've ever seen. The film perfectly captures the novel (by Ian McEwan).
The book should actually be read first before seeing the movie. But then go see this great movie!
A heart wrenching story about lies and what ifs with a great twist.
Heartbreaking story about perception and forgiveness, but so beautifully done and visually stunning.
