Char-Broil Big Easy - Oilless Infrared Turkey Fryer

Char-Broil has outdone itself this year with the Infrared Oil-less Turkey Fryer. I have cooked a couple of turkeys and a chicken in it. The concept is great. No oil. No mess. No fire danger.

Only problem with the IR fryer is that it needs a flame control switch. Right now, the 1st gen model on sports ON or OFF. Consequently, if you aren't paying attention, your bird couuld get extra crispy on the outside before the inside is done.

Despite that fact, there are work arounds and I highly recommend picking one up.

Traditionally, to make a deep-fried turkey, you have to heat gallons of searing hot oil over an open flame and the chances of overflowing oil, splatters, burns, fire, explosions and death are always on the top of your mind. When you are finished cooking, disposal or storage of the expensive oil is a real pain as well. Well, all of these problems have been solved with the cool new Char-Broil Big Easy - Oilless Infrared Turkey Fryer. Now, you can have that same deep-fried taste experience, without all of the dangers, without all of hassles and expenses and it's healthier for you as well. (via The Green Head)

I have deep fried turkeys the last 15 years. I saw the Char-Broil’s new infrared oil-less turkey fryer at Bass Pro Shop and bought it. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. The skin isn't as crisp and crunchy as deep frying. It takes twice as long to cook. I always cook mine to 190 degrees. Thats checking it in the leg. Thawed it out and injected it. Let it sit in fridge 3 days. Great taste and even moister than deep frying. No oil to buy, uses less propane, quicker clean up, no jumping up every few minutes to check the temperature, and you can sit bak and talk in a normal voice.(Burner is pretty loud with normal cooker)

You told yourself that this would be the year. 2007 would be the year that you would finally give in to your family's pleas and try...a deep-fried turkey for Thanksgiving.

Too bad your cardiologist just decreed a life free of fried foods.

There's a happy medium for everyone with the Char-broil Big Easy, which cooks an entire turkey with the same deliciously crispy, caramelized outcome of a regular deep-fat fryer, but WITHOUT OIL. How can that be, you ask? We don't really know either, but we trust the engineers who use infrared technology to perform the magic.

Get one early. Never hurts to have a couple practice go 'rounds before the Big Day.
