I don't consider it an exaggeration to say that this album is an emotional investment. This album just might change your outlook on life, if not soul music. With memorable songs and an even more memorable voice, it is a must-have for any collection.

how does one pick the best of nina simone? such a long, prolific career, with music to match every mood, every major life event, political event, each smile, and each tear.
each time i get fabulous, i hear "see-line woman" in my head, the where she talks about silk stockings with golden seams. that's how i know she's good.
this album is a pretty good intro to ms. simone. it does have "see-line woman," "mississippi goddam," "strange fruit," "i put a spell on you."
notably, it doesn't have a couple of my favorites, "i want a little sugar in my bowl," and "black is the color of my true loves' hair." but, that's what itunes is for...
