Pandora Internet Radio
It's the best thing ever when looking for new music, or when you're sick of your current music but want to listen to more of the same genre. It recommends music that you may potentially like, allows you to rate if you like the music that has been picked, and remembers which songs you like and dislike. In addition to that, it also allows you to segregate your channels according to what artist' song you feel like listening to. It's practically your personal DJ! Only downside to this is that it's only available in the US :(
If you already have a good sense of what you like in music but want to see what else is out there without taking a dangerous plunge into unchartered waters, try Pandora. Its like an online jukebox that's driven by a very sophisticated database that catalogs each song's and artist's characteristics. Plug in one of your favorite artists and you'll get a playlist of other artists Pandora thinks you'll like. Descriptions are one thing... hearing is another. Check it out. Its free and you'll be using more than you imagine.
A great idea that would fail miserably if it wasn't thought out and executed so brilliantly. Imagine an incredibly sophisticated jukebox or personal radio station with not only your favourite bands, songs and albums but also recommendations from similar artists (some even the most savvy of music snobs would be surprised by)! You enter in a band that you like and then Pandora suggests other bands you might like based on detailed analysis. Its extensive database also allows you to rate each song and then programs itself to play only those songs that you like and might like based on your ratings. It's really quite genius.
Wow! It's perfect. You get to hear the music you KNOW you love.....music you just found out you love (thanks to Pandora) and still find out what you just don't care for. All of that....PLUS...the couple of times I contacted the Pandora people, I got email from real human beings...NOT computer generated replies. It cannot be beat!
