Crane and Co are bottom feeders where it comes to quality engraving, however. I have returned the same order twice due to quaility concerns, and it is still not right.

Crane and Co across the pond in America often offers a less expensive alternative. Their paper is excellent; in fact, I just read an article in Slate magazine discussing how Cartier's stationary was actually Crane & Co paper - not "similar to" but as in "ordered directly from." And of course, you can forgo all that altogether and spring for a $60 custom embosser and emboss any paper or envelopes until your heart is content. This is what I do with my Smythson stationary - order the blank paper and envelopes, then emboss away.
