This is the most honest memoir of writing I've ever read (with the possible exception of anything written by Anne Lamott). Why don't more writers tell the truth about what it's really like to be a writer? King talks about his dark days as a writer and how his wife helped him to get through those times. For more about King, the author, don't miss his speech at The 2003 National Book Awards:

King details how many words he writes a day, how long it takes him to create a first draft, how he edits. Essential information for writers, eminently readable.
