The canon EOS 30d takes beautiful pictures. A little more advanced for first-time photographers, but easy to get the hang of after a bit. More pricey than the Canon rebel, but more bells and whistles too, and designed for a little bit more experienced photographers. If this shows up on my doorstep I'll be a happy little Angeleno.

The Canon EOS 30D was the best intermediate, yet still amateur digital camera available in the Canon line when I was in the market. It has many features of the much more expensive Canon EOS models, but it is larger, heavier, and much more substantial that the Canon Rebel XTi. Even if you're just starting out (but still serious about learning the art of photography), I would recommend spending the extra money on the EOS 30D because you will quickly outgrow the Rebel XTi and find yourself frustrated by the number of things that you can't do compared to the EOS 30D.

A great digital SLR camera for its price. Since the newest EOS 40D camera has been released, the price on this camera body has finally dropped to a level I am willing to buy. The features on this SLR is similar to the Canon Rebel XTi, but within a metal body. The metal body feels much more solid than the plastic body found on the lower priced XTi.
If you are a beginner in photography then the Rebel would be the better choice because it is cheaper and eases you into SLR use. Purchase the 30D when you have figured out how to properly get the most out of your lens and have outgrown the features of your camera.
