The successor to Canon's popular "pro-sumer" (a term I hate) EOS 20D, the 30D is an evolutionary rather than revolutionary jump. That said, this is 2006 state-of-the-art for the amateur enthusiast who doesn't want to spring for the 5D or the 1D. Once you feel the heft and power of a camera like this, and certainly once you see the photos it produces, you won't go back to a point-and-shoot (or, gasp, film) ever again!

Not a tool I use all the time, but I love this thing nonetheless. The first pictures I took with it blew me away! I know Canon just came out with a newer version, but for a long time, this was as close as you could get to all-pro digital without dropping 6-8 g's. (via Canon)
