So the Carthusian monks came up with this stuff in 1737, combining 130 ingredients to make a "tonic" with the purpose of apparently healing all that might ail. I love Chartreuse liquer, and have to admit that I am intrigued by this cordial that has to be kept in a wooden case to retain...something. The monks suggest taking a few drops on a lump of sugar, which makes me think that if you served it this way, people might be concerned they were being dosed. Or pleased with the idea. At 142 proof, it might make you hallucinate if you take too much of it straight.
