Clearly, The Muppet Show was more for adults than for kids. My mother enjoyed it far more than I did when it debuted in 1976. I REALLY didn't get it. Some of the sillier, slapstick things were obviously funny to me, but there was plenty of banter that took place that went way over my head. The subtlties in characterization of the Muppets, and even the finer points in making fun of the celebrity guests are more than apparent to me now, and so clever. Jim Henson was ahead of his time.
