Lately my husband and I are very into gadgets that do not require electricity or batteries to operate, so we've been checking out solar-powered and crank-powered items. I review another crank-powered lantern with lots of cool features in my Green Living list, but it is quite a bit more expensive. This lantern is simple, functional, and SUPER-BRIGHT, much brighter than you would expect from a wind-up. If all you need is light, and not all those other fancy features of the higher-end crank lanterns, than this is the one for you! It's great for emergencies (like power-outages, never have to worry about dead batteries again!), camping, to keep in the car for roadside emergencies, and travel. We love it!

I'm trying to track down a camping lantern that is solar. My friend has one, so they exist, but she cannot recall where she got it. Has anyone seen these? They look more or less like a "hurricane type" lantern, or like a Coleman kerosene camping lantern, but they are totally solar. Worked pretty good. Hers was made by a company named Jordan, but I have not located it online. She said she paid $10! Can that be??
