I cannot believe I forgot to include 'Harold and Maude' in my list of all time favorites.. This is one of the most charming and eccentric movie I've ever seen. (via Andrea)

This beautifully shot romance captures the hope of the flower children, bordering occasionally (or consistently) on the syruppy and sentimental. No matter, though - the Cat Stevens soundtrack puts you in the mood to be indoctrinated, and the adorably morose Bud Cort plays a welcome foil to Ruth Gordon's blissed out octogenarian.

My favorite movie ever. From the opening scene, the soundtrack is perfect, you watch as Harold prepares and then hangs himself. This is one of several brilliant scenes where he fakes his own suicides desperately trying to get the attention of his rich mother. Enter Maude, an eccentric old woman he meets at a funeral. It's a love story. A love story with life.

"That's very interesting, Harold, and I think, very illuminating. There seems to be a definite pattern emerging. And, of course, this pattern, once isolated, can be coped with. Recognize the problem, and you are halfway on the road to its, uh, its solution. Uh, tell me, Harold, what do you do for fun? What activity gives you a different sense of enjoyment from the others? Uh, what do you find fulfilling? What gives you that... special satisfaction?"
"...I go to funerals."
"I suppose you think that's very funny, Harold. Dinner at eight, Harold. And do try and be a little more vivacious."

I watched this when I was little and was thoroughly confused. I had all of those social constructs fresh in my mind that have now been broken down. Now, I'd love to see it all over again and only hear great things about it. And, all of the movie's music is by Cat Stevens. How lovely!
