It took about two years for "Oh, Inverted World" to grow on me - at first I thought it was kind of wussy and boring. But then when I first moved to L.A. I used to come home from work every night and eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner on the back porch while listening to "Caring Is Creepy" and "Know Your Onion" and "One By One All Day," and the album totally worked its way into my heart. "New Slang" is classic too, even though now it just makes me think of Zach Braff, about whom I have very complicated and conflicting feelings.

"Blind to the last cursed affair
Pistols and countless eyes
A trail of white blood betrays
The reckless route your craft is running
Feed till the sun turns into wood
Dousing an ancient torch
Loiter the whole day through
And lose yourself in lines dissecting love."

If it wasn't for Garden State and the opening track on this album, no one would have ever known who The Shins were. Fortunately, Zach Braff brought us all to them and we haven't looked back. I'm thankful for that.

Oh, Inverted World proves to be another great album from The Shins. It might take some time to grow on you, but in the end it will prove to be a cd worth listening to over and over again. Their indie popness really comes through on songs such as Girl Inform Me and Know Your Onion! (There's a ! in the song title...just by the way)
