First to recommend

del.icio.us, ThisNext, and Yelp. Each one has its own domain for making picks and spreading the news.

del.icio.us for bookmarking web sites, ThisNext for recommending products, and Yelp for reviewing local businesses and attractions.

I'm particularly into reviewing restaurants on Yelp: http://esh.yelp.com

(Yeah, I guess that means I'd normally post about Yelp on del.icio.us, but I saw a recommendation of ThisNext on Yelp and thought I'd return the favor since I love Yelp, too).

I use Yelp to catalog places I've been and liked or disliked and easily refer back to them or share them with friends when they come to town so I'm not constantly having to think about which places I liked and make personal recs, I just send them my Yelp link: www.hazelgrace.yelp.com - it's so easy!

I have found myself depending more and more on Yelp. Recently thanks to Yelp I found a fab new hairdresser (Lona at Remedy Salon in Emeryville, she is a hair goddess), a fantastic chiropractor, a great new tapas bar in San Jose, some great punk rock/dive bar recommendations in Orange County (where I have to go for a few days later this week on business) and a great price on an airport shuttle service from my house in San Jose to SFO!

If you are not on Yelp, you need to be. It's like having a really good friend who can recommend anything and everything. I'm a huge believer in word of mouth recommendations (hence my love for and addiction to ThisNext). Think of Yelp sort of like ThisNext but for services local to your area (or away from your area if you need to search for a recommendation in a different town you might be traveling or moving to).

This is one of my can't live without sites!

Love this site. It's my place to go when I just want to blog about some everyday something like shoe repair. Also it's a good way to see what everyone is saying about a new place.

Citysearch what? Move into the 21st century folks. Not only can you get reviews for restaurants all over the US, if you're new to a city with an active Yelp community it's a great way to meet people.
Part restaurant review site, part friendster, all awesome.

Yelp has provided much needed information for restaurants, barber shops, grocery stores, you name it since I have moved to Brooklyn. I like the fact that users run the entire gamut in regards to age, ethnicity and tastes. A large majority of the users provide much needed information about particular vendors. If I was a store or restaurant, I would be reading Yelp every day to see what I could be doing to help my establishment become better. (via zell)
