I have it from a good source at Digital Life that this is an excellent movie. He wanted me to say everyone should depart their houses and see the movie. Sounds good to me.

ACHIEVEMENT IN DIRECTING ACHIEVEMENT IN FILM EDITING BEST MOTION PICTURE OF THE YEAR ADAPTED SCREENPLAY Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an undercover cop in South Boston assigned to infiltrate a mob syndicate run by a boss named Costello (Jack Nicholson). Meanwhile, a young criminal, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), has embedded himself in the police department's Special Investigation Unit. Both their lives become endangered when the two organizations realize they have moles within their ranks. We saw this movie and I have to admit the acting is top-notch - Leonardo DiCaprio is extraordinary and brings to mind a young brooding Marlon Brando. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole movie but was a bit disappointed toward the end - seems as if it was rushed a bit. Overrall. I highly recommend this movie!!

This movie is long, but I enjoyed every minute of it and didn't want it to end. Though I usually have a hard time following complex people plots, this movie kept me right there. I don't think I've enjoyed a movie this much since The Matrix (which it's nothing like, of course).

"The Departed" is an excellent movie and a must see. If you miss it in the theaters, buy or rent the DVD (isn't that what Netflixis for?) The writing and acting are both superb. I would compare "The Departed" more to "The Usual Suspects" than any of the movies others wrote below.

It was fun. But not as fun as the original. To everyone who loved it - you MUST see Infernal Affairs (if you haven't already) - the award winning 2002 Hong Kong blockbuster that went international, fast, that Scorsese remade. [i via'd the trailer for the original] This one was so similar, i knew the plot and a lot of details felt like de ja vu - but it really makes me want to rewatch the old one. Oh, and Infernal Affairs was a trilogy - is scorsese going to do all 3?

The best gangster film I've seen in a long time. It just keeps twisting and turning and when you finish watching it you feel totally amped.

This version is great, but for what it's worth, the original Hong Kong version was MUCH better.
