I haven't liked a BlackBerry since the original ones back in the 90s, but this one is rather delightful. The screen is crisp and clear and Cingular's EDGE network makes for super fast web page browsing.

In our industry, we call the 8700 the workhorse of the RIM lineup. Why? Let me count thy ways:

- Real phone. Have you tired using the old 7290? This was the first phone in RIM's lineup that had decent voice quality AND an excellent speakerphone.
- Durability. I can't tell you how many times I've dropped mine. The hardshell can take a real beating. At my buddy's company, they use 8700's as hockey pucks in the office, and they still work afterwards.
- User Interface. Is there a keyboard that's easier to use? Great layout, solid tactile typing, and a beautiful screen made the 8700 standout amongst its competitors.
- Battery life. This is where RIM really standouts, regardless of the model. They spend a lot of time optimizing the battery life for all of their devices. I've had the 8700 on for 3-4 days before charging, and that is with full usage (email, voice, internet, bluetooth).

With all the devices that I carry around, I always keep my 8700 in my bag as a backup in case any of the other devices decide to flip out on me.

Needless to say, this baby will be in the portfolio for a while, even with all the newer Blackberries that are being released this quarter.

For those who are still holding back, expect the price point to drop Q2/Q3 as the new bb's come out. Heck, it's $99.99 for my clients ;) I'm jealous because I bought mine back in the day for $399.99.

one of the best phones. The only drawbacks is its size, if you are a woman. But for guys it is great since they always were pants. And by giving it to your boyfriend, you have one on hand without carry it.
