This makes a stylish bedside lamp. You turn it on by waving your hand over the top and control the brightness by raising or lowering your hand. Of course flailing your arm around late at night is a good recipe for knocking your lamp off the table. Fortunately, if you're willing to pay for shipping from England, they'll send you a replacement blue insert.
description from DWR: From the company that brought you the Lava Lamp in the 1960s, the Airswitch® 1 (2004) operates without the user ever touching the lamp. Like its name says, the âswitchâ is in the air. Simply move your hand over the top of the flask to turn it on and off. Raise and lower your hand to adjust the light from very dim to bright enough for reading. These instructions, should you forget them, appear as an iconographic display on the flask (printed on only one side, giving you the option of keeping this information visible or turned from view). Bulb (included): incandescent 40W/120V/E14 Torpedo.
i love this design. i don't know how it works or anything but it's a unique lamp that you don't have to touch to switch on or off. by the same folks that brought you the lava lamp. you know it's good.
