Old Rip Van Winkle 13 year old Rye Whiskey

Rye has been left behind for decades; when people think American whiskey, the usual suspects - Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, all bourbons or sour mash whiskey - leap to mind. Old Rip Van Winkle, maker of my favorite bourbon, and oh yeah, a 23-year-old bourbon widely considered the best bourbon available with price tag to match, whips up one helluva rye that just might change your tastes. Complex spicy flavors combine with a cleaner, less sweet finish than bourbon. Affordable at about $30 a bottle, its age sets it apart from the cheap ryes that have weakened this type of whiskey's reputation.
