Hotel Rwanda (2005)
Spring of 1994: The central African nation of Rwanda descends into murderous chaos after the Rwandan president's plane is shot down. The political, commercial, and military elite of the Hutu ethnic group decides it is time to annihilate the country's Tutsi ethnic minority, who are blamed for the crash. One Hutu hotel manager, Paul Rusesabagina (Don Cheadle), while trying to save the lives of his Tutsi wife and their children, ends up rescuing more than 1,200 people at his Hôtel de Mille Collines. Rusesabagina desperately begs the outside world for help, but none is forthcoming. He must keep his "guests" alive on his own. A must see movie and Don Cheadle is fantastic as usual!!
This is a gosh darn good movie; a real tear-jerker! And I mean that in the best sense. Though the movie is a bit sensational at times, there is no doubt that the real-life events that the film is based on are brought to light and are truly sad.
