This is the one of the only home coffee brewers to be approved by the Specialty Coffee Association of America, and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe's Brewing Centre.
It has a 1000W heating element that quickly produces 200F water - the proper temperature for brewing coffee. Temperature is important because it effects how the solubles are extracted from the grounds particulate into the water.
Another feature that I like on this brewer is the lever on the brew basket that allows you to set the rate at which is pours into the carafe. You can set the aperture to full open or half. This will effect the contact time between the water and the coffee, useful for brewing half or quarter pots when there is a thinner bed-depth (which can allow the coffee to pass through too quickly).
Last but not least: it has a thermal insulated carafe. Heated coffee pots will continue the chemical changes in the coffee as it sits, ultimately creating more acerbic acid (the sour tasting compound you find in old gas station or office coffee).
