Charles Dickens:: Hard Times
I just had to read this book for literature class. While normally being forced to read books leads to me overall disliking them, I enjoyed this one. This was a double surprise for me because I was prepared to dislike it because it's Dickens and the last time I had to read him for school it was Tale of Two Cities. (hello, massive symbolism) I've read about 6 of his novels. This one ranks second after David Copperfield in terms of 'like' on my list of his work. It's tragic, yes. Hypocrites and blackguards abound. But it has themes of redemption as well and some truly sympathetic characters along his trademark comic ones.
