Beijing National Stadium: The "Bird's Nest" by Herzong & DeMeuron (Swiss) and Li Xinggang

The blueprint for this stadium was completed in 2003, but the "Nest" was not fully complete until weeks before the 2008 Olympic Games are scheduled to begin tomorrow, August 8, 2008. Now that it is complete, the stadium will act as an anchor for the games, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. It is as rich in symbolism as it is large in size. The red glow, which is visible beginning at dusk, represents luck and optimism. And the structure itself is intended to project a sense of movement and energy. Good luck to all the athletes, along with their dedicated coaches !
