Leading online retailer, Amazon, throws its weight behind an e-book platform. The key to all e-books is that they use e-ink. This means you can read it in bright sunlight, just like a book. It's also power-efficient; Amazon claims it can be used for a week without recharging. Finally, the unique feature of the Kindle is that it uses an EVDO network to download books and magazines. So it works anywhere your cell phone does.

Wow. This is technology whose time has come -- green, wireless and reconnects us to intellectual pursuits. Perhaps with this device I could actually get back to the world of literature again. Hopefully, they've devised a suitable technological equivalent of dogearing the pages you want to come back to...

Amazon's Kindle is a great venture into the world of e-books. The device itself is shaped well for holding in one hand, like you might do with a paperback book, display is clear and easy to read, and the next page button is located right where you want it. When you want more to read you can easily access a large library to e-books using the free cell based Internet access. Then from that site you can search for books, preview books, bookmark things that interest you, and purchase new texts. While reading the kindle also has a function that allows to you take notes and email them to yourself. Great for students and teachers. Hopefully this will help people read more as well....

A convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. At 10.3 ounces, Kindle is lighter and thinner than typical paperbacks, and fits easily in one hand. Its built-in memory stores hundreds of titles. An optional SD memory card lets you hold even more. From Melville to Morrison, your favorite authors can always be with you. In addition, a copy of every book you purchase is backed up online in Your Media Library in case you ever need to download it again. This allows you to make room for new titles on your device, knowing that Amazon is storing your personal library, which can always be re-downloaded wirelessly. If you are out of wireless coverage, such as traveling overseas, you can download books to your computer from Your Media Library and transfer via USB to your Kindle. Think of it as a bookshelf in your attic—even though you don't see it, you know your books are there.

I hadn't really paid much attention to the Kindle before, but it actually looks pretty freakin' awesome. An electronic "book", works over a (free) wireless WiFi network called Whispernet, independent of your computer. Browse and instantly select from over 100,000 books, or subscribe to magazines or online blogs. They have 90 of the current New York Bestsellers, for $9.99 each. Perfect for travel-super long charge compared to my ipod or laptop-around 2 days between charges when connected to the network; a week or more with wireless off. Only two hours for a full charge. And because we know you can't judge a book by its cover, Kindle lets you download and read the beginning of books for free. This way, you can try it out—if you like it, simply buy and download with 1-Click, right from your Kindle, and continue reading. Want to try a newspaper as well? All newspaper subscriptions start with a risk-free two-week trial. Kindle’s paperback size and expandable memory let you travel light with your library. Holds over 200 titles in memory and it's lighter and thinner than a typical paperback; weighs only 10.3 ounces. The unit itself is a little pricey ($399), but if you read a lot, and want to cut down on clutter, this could be perfect. Me, I'll probably wait a bit and hope if the price drops into my budget range.

Most everyone I know wishes they had more leisure time to read. The Kindle makes it all possible in the palm of your hands wherever you are. Holds up to 200 titles, download a book in less than a minute wirelessly, and have access to top blogs, New York Times best sellers, other magazines, and newspapers. Amazon just bottled the information age, and what a convenient little pill it is... $399 + free two day shipping.

Used to I would have a bag of books, or papers, or crossword puzzles to work whenever I had some spare time during my day. Now with the Amazon Kindle I just carry around this light-weight device, no bigger then a normal hard-back and it has all the books and newspapers I could ever want. I download on it what I want to read, and nothing else. It makes life so much more easier, and the bag on my shoulder a little bit lighter.

My husband works with emerging technology, so he often has access to tech gadgets (hence, so do I). Compared to the iRex iLiad, the usability of the Kindle is definitely a huge improvement. Increasing font size is easy and having Next and Prev buttons are nice. I do think the right-side Next button is located in an odd spot -- if you hold it with your right hand you may accidentally click it. Another improvement is the selection roller, which I can't explain how weird it is but it works well for navigating menus. I haven't spent much time using the Kindle to access the internet, but it's a nice feature to have if you need to quickly get to sites like Google Maps (possible because of the built in GPS) and other pages formatted for mobile browser.

I've finished 3 books on my Kindle, and I now consider the reading experience to be superior to paper! You never lose your place, new books can be purchased and downloaded in seconds, and the appliance itself is very easy to use. The screen is not backlit, yet remains very legible and doesn't glare photons into your face for hours. I actually don't know the mechanics of the "digital ink" they use, but it's pretty Jetsons-esque and magical. I highly recommend the Kindle for booklovers everywhere!

I'm not allowed to buy books anymore. Six bookcases in the living room, two in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. You get the idea. I have a problem. The Kindle can hold 200 books inside a very small, very convenient package. That's a lot of shelf space. Think about it: you're on the train going to work and you can choose from a library; a long weekend at the beach, it rains; you read. Do I want one? Yes, yes and again yes.
