Vintage Popote Mexican POPOTILLO Straw Mosaic by KMalinkaVintage
Vintage Mexican folk straw-art, a popote art scene of a Mexican marketplace, 1930's. The scene is created using thousands of pieces of dyed straw or grass (popote, in Spanish), a wonderful and very labor-intensive art form. The box is decorated on its four sides designs. Also, the box is decorated with hand made designs on the wood. The art of weaving straw into pictures by using and combining the natural colours and shades of oats, barley, rye, wheat, and other grasses. The colors in this popote art picture are truly works of art very bright and vibrant; there has been no fading due to sunlight and direct lighting. This piece has been highly treasured!
