It is possible for a business to have no need to expand. A local foodstuffs store or canteen does not necessarily need to spend money and make branches in other locations. Sometimes, it only needs to add some things to the menu or increase space, but it does not have to grow into the next KFC. However, for each such venture, there are small and medium businesses that crave the opening to break out of their initial limits and carve out a bigger piece of the pie. The first thing to remember when expanding is to know whether or not the business will benefit from it. A business’ bottom line is in its profits, but they are not the final determining factor in the decision to expand. Before expanding, take care to check if there is anything within the business itself that can benefit from it. For a moment, disregard the lure of increased profits and examine the company’s structure. Can any part of the process become more efficient or more cost-effective if it was increased in size? The economics of scale play a huge part in determining the right time to expand and should not be ignored.
