GoYurt Shelters : Truly Portable Yurts and Yurt Kits
When I was a kid my family bought a teepee. For a kid it was a fabulous, fabulous thing. For adults... not so fabulous because teepees are meant to be set up by more than one (strong, well rested) person. Setting up a teepee takes several hours. All that canvas is heavy. The poles are LONG. New poles need to be selected and cut about every 10 years or so, which can be quite an endeavor. Not so with this collapsible and portable yurt from Go Yurt. Setup takes about an hour and all the pieces break down into manageable sizes.
This must be my way of dealing with some long suppressed wanderlust but I've been looking at alternate housing forms and this yurt caught my attention. It is a very practical temporary housing possibility. Mongolian and other nomadic people have used similar homes for generations. This one is well thought out and made with sustainable yet familiar materials. (no need to provide your own yak hair!)
