LaCie - Huby

 LaCie - Huby - Photo

Very clever way of getting over the idea of hiding all those wires, and it provides easy access to ports, too.

Love this stylish USB & FireWire combination hub for PC or Mac. Designed exclusively for LaCie by Ora-Ïto, the Huby’s round shape, glossy white polycarbonate finish, and flexible cables give it a distinctive, modern look. Add 4 USB ports and 2 FireWire ports to your computer system and connect up to six devices simultaneously*. Bundled with 8 flexible, twistable cables (5 USB 2.0 & 3 FireWire 400), a USB fan, a USB light, a USB extension cable and a FireWire 400 extension cable, it comes fully equipped for easily making all of your connections. Fabulous gift!

"The LaCie Huby ($80) is truly a work of art for your desk. Designed by Ora-Ito, the glossy white computer hub sports eight flexible tentacles with LEDs — two FireWire, four USB ports, a USB fan, and a USB light. The Huby works with both Macs and PCs."

Simply useless but still cool. I personally would love to have had the occasion to get such a gadget from Bruno Munari or Achile Castiglioni, but.. it's life, right?

I love the design of this HUB. Its it own little creature in itself. Also it acts as light and a fan. I have tried out multiple HUBs and they always fail and I have to plug my accessories back into them again to get them to power up. This little creature has enough power so that I dont have to deal with this.

We can't decide if we should gaze upon its visually interesting design, coo at its cute little orb shape, or be afraid that its tentacles might attack us. Whichever way we choose to appreciate the look of the Hub designed for La Cie exclusively by Ora Ito, in the end, all that matters is that the USB and FireWire combination hub for both PC and Mac is unequivocally functional. Four USB ports and 2 FireWire ports connect up to six devices. The Hub also comes with a USB fan, a USB light, a USB extension cable and a FireWire 400 extension cable. With that much connectivity, maybe we ARE a little afraid.

Just like her, the LaCie Huby is the perfect intersection of form and function, party and polished. The smooth sphere is the base for a wild tangle of connectors that will let her plug in all her gadgets.

At any given time, I connect my computer to my camera, my iPod, to my Firelite, etc. I could go with an ordinary USB port but this one take the cake. With seven USB ports, this device makes USB extensions pretty.

It seems like today every device from cell phones to digital cameras make use of the USB cabling standard. Therefore, USB clutter is now very common with home/office desks everywhere. Ora-ito has created a solution to this clutter problem with their HUB. It can take up to 7 devices and organizes the cabling with 7 different color coded plugs.

Just by its self, it's pretty fantastic like a high tech sculpture! But its intended purpose is to give you 7 USB ports. "Each port is linked to a colorful LED that luminates through the casing when plugged in. The is also great for charging your iPod, camera, cell phone and other devices that charge from a USB port. " Works with Mac or PC.

When I discovered this, I had to have it. Partly, it's because I'm a bit over unplugging and replugging my peripherals. But mainly 'cause it looks so cool!
