"The Constant Gardener" jjuggles three film styles—the romance, the thriller, and provocative social realism. On all three levels, the film succeeds, especially with the latter. The strands of thriller and social realism are inextricably tied together in the film. As a whodunit, "The Constant Gardener" seeks to uncover what actually happened to Justin (Ralph Fiennes) and Tessa (Rachel Weisz) on their African journey. At the same time, the main culprit that emerges is the heavy hand of greed as the pharmaceutical companies exploit helpless victims of tuberculosis for the purpose of testing and marketing an experimental drug. At one point in the film, it is disclosed to Justin that the pharmaceutical industry is no different than "arms dealers." A must-see!

Good movie that makes you wonder about corporate greed.

It took me forever to get around to watching this movie simply because of the title. I thought for sure it was some slow moving British romance. Turns out it is slow moving at times, it does have British folk in it, and there is some romance, but none of these really describe the film. I managed to ignore the "corporations are evil" preaching and enjoyed it just for the action and suspense. Sure, I saw a more shallow movie than most because of this, but I'm a bit tired of preaching and am looking for shallow movies. Also, it was filmed on location and there are some great visuals if you like seeing different parts of our planet.

This is such a great movie. Truly. It is rare to find movies that touch on such important topics and do it in a way that both entertains and educates. Rent this movie or better yet own it!
