The original iPod, the Pod homes from Icosa Village are prefab shelters made of plastic pieces that snap together like an Erector set. Easy to build with no need for special tools or skills, the Pods are extremely strong and yet very lightweight.

Originally designed as more humane temporary shelter for displaced people in emergency situations, Pods were first tested at Burning Man. Gorgeous to behold and out of this world. If you have the funds, this is a must have for the playa.

Hi Megan,

I've been meaning to give you a shout out about your Burning Man posts. It is very obvious you are a seasoned Burner. I was there this year, 2007. It was amazing. The double rainbow over Burning Man confirmed it. Image:

I am dying to get my hands on one of these eco pods or something similar. Great post.

I saw these some time ago on another site and recently here and decided that I need to recommend this.

I love the design. If you look at the pictures of installations, it almost reminds you of something you'd see in a Star Wars movie, but it seems quite practical as well. It's not quite an urban looking item, but if one wished to live off the grid, this would be a good start...
