Shortly after the Great Depression hit, merchant marine Charles H. Beckley purchased the O.D. Baker Company in Boston, keeping it afloat with a West Point contract. Decades later, the company is now run by Beckley’s two great-nephews, Tim and Ted Marschke, and specializes in hand-stitched mattresses made on the factory’s original machines. Filler options include horsehair (the best seller), cotton and synthetic fibers. Every mattress is made to order, and dimensions can be customized.
