Modern silhouettes are genius. Karl Johnson is a young, 3rd generation cut paper artist who has been commissioned by some of the chicest publications & events - with good reason - he's extremely talented. The 2nd best part? His hand-cut, custom portraits start at just $25. Everyone should have original artwork in their home. Now there's no excuse not to! I'll be commissioning portraits of friends, kids & pets this year for Christmas gifts...

I have one of my Dad and it is very special to me. Somehow it captures him better than any picture could. I love how old-fashioned and classic these silhouette are in comparison to our highly technical digital photographs.

This would make the most thoughtful 1st birthday gift EVER. I still have one my Mom made of me when I was 4 or 5 and it's a precious keepsake. The very best gifts are personal, this it the cream of the crop for wee ones. (via Ooolala)
