Besides the cool cover photos I'm fascinated by Camera Obscura sound and song-writing. "Underachievers Please Try Harder " is a must have. I tend to use the first track "Suspended From Class" when introducing my friends to their music. Camera Obscura the focus of "Underachievers Please Try Harder" is primarily the uncomfortable parts of love and the bitter pills of relationships. The songs give voice to the awkward unspoken feelings between partners, yet the vocals and compositions are up-tempo and very sweet sounding, the sort of stuff that makes you dance like Snoopy in your bedroom. The production is excellent, trumpet, mandolin such punctuating, extending and lifting up heavy themes which in the hands of another band would come of depressing and emotionally deviating. But my favorite element of the lighthearted sound of "Underachievers Please Try Harder " is the cleaver rhyming through out, such as "I should be suspended from class
I don’t know my elbow from my arse". (via Sean McCabe)
