Andrea's recommendation

I'm always interested in plant vessels, and I generally prefer containers that allow the plant to show off, without cluttering it with a lot of redundant man made decoration. This usually means a simple, clear, glass container - even better with transparent dirt! ($10 at Day-lab)

Note: An easily-maintained live plant can be a nice alternative to cut flowers that die within a week (especially for girls who tend to overthink). Although, those girls (whoever they are) may PREFER cut flowers because then when the plants die, it's not a reflection on their nurturing abilities.
