So this may actually be one of the smartest movies I have seen in a while. True, there is a LOT of crap out there, but that doesn't change the fact that this movie is brilliant. Basically, it tells the story of this guy Tony Wilson and how he made Manchester the center of music in the seventies. It is build like a documentary and it's entertaining as hell! Tony Wilson makes so many smart, sarcastic side comments, you can't but smirk most of the time. You get a pretty good idea on the atmosphere of the time, not to mention on the musical scene. Joy Division, The sex pistols, New Order, Happy Mondays.....just to name a few. It's definetly worth watching!
(and yes, I jumped up and down like an idiot when they showed Janie Jones from the Clash for miserable 5 seconds).

If you love music, check out this movie about the 70's- 80's music scene in Manchester. The film is a docudrama of sorts that is told through the story of tv anchor/ personality turned record producer Tony Wilson who was front and center during the rise and tragic fall of Joy Division, The Sex Pistols, Happy Mondays and more. Quite frankly, this is the film that the subject matter deserved. Telling the story of Manchester's Factory Records and its founder Tony Wilson (played by the brilliant Steve Coogan), and featuring the introductions of the Sex Pistols, Joy Division, New Order and the Happy Mondays, 24 Hour Party People is a frenetic, fascinating and incredibly entertaining. Director Michael Winterbottom may not consistently hit the mark, but when he does, you get this.

Oh, and the soundtrack? Fantastic, as you might expect!
