this is such a powerful movie and i can't get enough of it. it's more on the serious side which is unusual for musicals but its still such a strong and beautiful movie to watch. the story takes place in tsarist russia in 1905 and the story centers on tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while the world and civilization around the village change rapidly. even if you are not jewish (which i'm not), this movie will drag you back to the horrible trials and tribulations that the jewish community has had to endure. aside from the historical and moral insights, it also contains some of the most beautiful pieces of music you will ever find in a movie. i often find myself humming the tune the fiddler plays on the roof.

When I saw this movie for the first time a few summers ago both my brother, my viewing partner, and I thought it was new. Couldn't figure out how I hadn't seen any reviews of it. Recently did a theater version, so it's a tale dear to my heart.

It's a timeless family story. A musical but well-timed. Classic!
