Only buy this if you work outside the home or want to pump so hubby or grandparents can feed your baby. I bfed my boys for 2 years and not once did I use my pump. I even had surgery and as soon as I was awake enough to sit up they let me nurse my son who was 4 months at the time.

If you plan to breastfeed for more than about six weeks, I highly recommend investing in a Madela pump. I have quite a few friends who purchased a (less expensive) hand pump and ultimately ended up with this electric pump. I used my pump at home and at work which were places I thought I’d use it, but I also used it in places I never would have anticipated such as weddings, vacation and off-site meetings. Pumping is not glamorous, but if you are going to do it, pump in style! (via Mom's Favorite Stuff)

This was a total life-saver when my son was born. It took us a little while to get used to breastfeeding and this breast pump allowed me to keep my supply up until we got the hang of it. Plus, I was able to store up an ample supply to send with him to daycare once I went back to work.
