Pre-fab is here, and my favorites come from Marmol Radziner. The cheapest and fastest way to get an architectural home from Southern California's pre-eminent modern architects.

I'm a huge fan of almost all things prefab and these are some of the nicest designs to be sure. The attraction of the modern, damn cool design, the speed of construction when compared to traditional "stick-built" homes, and the green, sustainable features have me asking "where do I sign up?". That is, until I see how much they cost... and then I have to slowly turn and walk away with my head down. Will this promising industry ever turn the corner and realize the promise it seems to have? We'll see... I remain hopeful.

These prefabs are, well, fabulous! I have a pretty large yard - 1/4 acre. My goal is to install a prefab at the end of the yard to create an in-law apartment or at-home-office. I think renting out some of my space is a much more sustainable idea. Using less square footage is an important factor in living green.

Back to the product... I like the steel construction with lots of glass. It's basically a box, but it's the details that make these beautiful. Windows, steps, and the selected wood used.
