I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan, and his novella Stardust, illustrated by Charles Vess, is really fun and definitely among the best. The movie is a nice adaptation of the story, and they do a very good job of keeping the heart of the story intact, while re-writing it to make sense on screen. In the process you get a minor character reworked to be Robert DeNiro as a flamboyant pirate of the sky, which is such wacky fun. If you enjoyed the book, you won't be let down by the movie. If you've never read the book, then you should, but it's a bit fantasy, a bit action, a dash of love story, and a ton of fun. If you liked Princess Bride, you'll like this.
I watched the movie recently (haven't read the book), and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me more of "The Princess Bride" than any other movie - great story, lots of fun.
I feel like people slept on Stardust. Its a REALLY good movie. I only saw it because I had time to kill and was near the movie theater. It was highly entertaining and comparable to the humor, intelligence and adventure of The Princess Bride. See it.
