One thing I've noticed when sailing is that it's good to be quick on your feet and it's good to be able to be flexible. Being inhibited by your life vest isn't just uncomfortable it's dangerous. This life vest is build with unrestricted movement in mind.

These shorter life vests don't compromise safety, however they do allow for a lot better movement.
When you are sunk inside of a kayak, having a life vest that goes to your hips really inhibits your movement... these half length ones allow you to move, paddle, and actually enjoy yourself on the water. :)
