Life goes on. A mathematician by the name of Conway invented a simple mathematical game of cellular automata. In this game each cell has certain parameters that allow it to grow or die. By placing cells near each other you can create endless patterns of growing and dying cellular communities. Some patterns result in a stable or fixed community of cells that stops changing, other patterns go on and on and on in a mesmerizing way. This kit by adafruit is a simple LED kit that anyone with a soldering iron can make. Though you cannot set the original parameters, when you switch it on the cells or green LED's light and change forming patterns that are fascinating to watch. Make one of these, put it on your desk and think about the basic forces of your life and what makes it go on or come to a complete stop.
