It's a pop-up book! It's a lamp! It's both! Wait, what? Designer, Takeshi Ishiguro, proves that he is a creative genius on a whole other level.

Now this is inspired design. Keep this book on your bookshelf, and when a guest complains that the room is too dark, take it out, open it up and plug it in!
It's quite ingenious - my only complaint is that there is no option for batteries - you still have to have a cord hanging out and plugged into a wall somewhere. This also makes it useless in a blackout, when I think it would be the most fun to use :)

If you are looking for a cool new coffee table book that amaze your guests, you need the Book of Lights. The Book of Lights is a pop-up book that when opened reveals a working pop-up iluminated Victorian lamp or a Streetlamp powered by a low-voltage adapter. Unfortunately, there's only one lamp per book (a whole book full of various pop-up working lamps would be awesome), but it's still a, er bright idea. (via The Green Head)
