Dustin Hoffman plays a two-bit criminal who anonymously rescues victims of a plane accident. Geena Davis plays a TV reporter who has the only clue to his identity - the shoe he lost. He's picked up by homeless Andy Garcia, and tosses away his missing shoe. Andy Garcia presents the other shoe, as in a male version of Cinderella, and is acclaimed as the hero. Dustin Hoffman's character remains anonymous to others until he goes out on a ledge to talk with Andy Garcia, who's about to jump to his death.
This movie is fun on its own, but can also be seen as a reflection on media-created heroes
