Watching life rise from seeming nothingness is miraculous enough, but Message Beans, spotted on Really Natural, have an additional layer of wonder. As the beanstalk sprouts, its first leaves unfurl sporting a laser-etched message and complementary image. (via Really Natural)

I can't believe it took me this long to discover these! They are so cute and cool and everything I want in a message and a bean. The beans have messages lasered onto them, so when they grow, they display your message proudly with a corresponding image on the other leaf. Available messages include "Happy Birthday", "Get Well", and "Love". It takes about a week after planting for the seed to sprout and show the message, so the anticipation will add excitement, too. So cute : )

A little typographic message that's been laser etched on a bean - English on one side and Japanese on the other. Just open the can, add water, and in 7 days one of these 4 messages will bloom: Happy Birthday, Best Wishes, Love, or Dream. Brilliant alternative to a gift card!

How do they do it? Believe it or not, each magical Message Bean grows with an actual word lasered onto one side and an image on the other. Simply remove the foil top and bottom of the can (for drainage), and add a 1/2 cup of water to the enclosed soil -- in just 1-2 weeks, the bean will poke through the surface, revealing the special message! The bean then sprouts into a small plant that can be kept in the container or replanted. A simple and original way to send a greeting.

Giving green is great. Growing a message is like a double surprise: when you first open the gift; and when the plant opens up. Neat.
