I love Julia Child. I have everything she’s written. I’ve don’t really cook from this book myself, but it's great for reference and learning about cooking.

The book that got Julia Child her start as an author, a teacher, and a TV personality (and the one that gave Julie Powell a blog, a book, and a movie)

Even if you don't know how to boil water (hello, father?) Julia will teach you. The greatest part of Julia, is she is so down to earth and all her recipes figure in that the grocery store is the only place you have to shop, so she substitutes in canned food and preserved food. She is just my hero.

In an era when most American housewives were cooking shrink-wrapped food in convection ovens, Julia Child reawakened the world to the simplicity and satisfaction of home cookery, seen through the rarified lens of French cuisine.

One of Julia Child’s early cookbooks with Simone Beck. You must learn to crawl before you can run! I think everyone should learn basic French technique. It will open up the world to you culinarily. When you learn those techniques, you learn about chemistry and what food does: what acid does to food, what heat does to protein...It’s all about learning the basic skills and practicing them.
