this movie has some of the best acting i have ever seen. chrisitan bale plays this totally messed up factory worker who weighs...like 80 lbs. he did such an amazing job pulling off this really incredible story.

Christian Bale has made a lot of good movies, and this is one of them. He plays a machinist in a factory who's an insomniac. He hasn't slept in a full year and is on the edge of madness. Which doesn't go over well when you're working with heavy machinery. Needless to say, strange things begin to happen and he can't discern who's real and who's a hallucination. Can you? (via Amazon)

Christian Bale got more press for the weight he lost for his role in The Machinist (and then bulked back up for Batman Begins) than the actual movie got. Which is a shame, because his performance is about much more than being able to see his ribcage.

It's the story of a troubled insomniac who is haunted by something mysterious. His world is one of a perpetual sleepwalker. You've had those days when you've had trouble sleeping or only had an hour or two and had to function as normally as possible, right? Imagine not sleeping for a year. The harrowing reality of living like that is only the first layer of psychological twisting that The Machinist delivers.

After not begin able to sleep for a year, and machinist begins to question his sanity. Christian Bale lost 3 pounds to play this role.
