I know it sounds cheesy, but these knives - which are usually sold door-to-door - are AMAZING. I adore them. They're not the same as serrated knives and have a patented D-cut design that will slice through almost anything. The handles are ergonomically designed and the knives are all balanced to promote ease of use, safety, and precision cutting. They also offer a "forever guarantee" which differs from a 'lifetime guarantee'. At any time, you can send the knives in to be sharpened or tweaked or whatever. They're non-porous, so they don't absorb any bacteria, which is especially important when cutting meat. The shank of the knife extends through to the bottom of the handle, which is an important feature because it affects the balance of the knife, which affects the precision.
They're very pricy, and probably out of the budget range for most people, but I strongly suggest adding this to a wedding registry or other event registry, as it's going to be something that will look great, perform well, and give you something you'll really value for YEARS. Can you say the same for the fondue set or the cappucino maker? Notsomuch. ;)

Dude lemme tell you that I was skeptical of the infomercial-like nature of the promotion around Cutco knives, but they are AWESOME.
Just as one example: I have a lemon tree in the backyard. I like to make lemonade (go figure) -- and after I got one of these, it takes me half the time. Slicing a lemon literally takes one swipe of the knife, rather than "sawing" back and forth to cut through it. It's like -- forgive the terrible punny analogy -- a hot knife through butter.
Does the same thing for grapefruits and raw beef. Amazing, amazing product.
