Automatic for the People by R.E.M.

The best band in the world’s best album, Automatic is soul food for my ears. When I’m down, happy, in the mood for Stipe and strings, or whatever the case, I reach for any one of multiple copies I own. I once wrote an entire film script while only listening to Document, another masterpiece.

I've been revisiting Automatic for the People lately; it takes me back to my freshman year of high school and makes me really sad that the Michael Stipe/Kurt Cobain collabo once talked about never got to happen...

Such a great, classic album. Just about every song on here could be a single. If you only own one R.E.M. album, this should be it.

For a long time I really loathed the mere mention of R.E.M. Then I realized when this album came out in '92 I was 14 and too young to appreciate it. As I got older, the R.E.M. that was blaring in my ears were songs like Losing My Religion (which I still don't like). Now that I'm older I can revisit this album and truly appreciate it for songs like: Sweetness Follows Star Me Kitten Try Not to Breathe I do like Everybody Hurts but unfortunately its beaten over our heads, ears, and eyes. Thank MTV. Great album all around.
